I looked in the nest today and found a strange "egg". It's small and very squishy. I was worried one of my laying hens left it but wondered if it could be our younger pullet who hasn't started laying trying to give it a go before she was ready. It's squishy but hasn't broken, so the shell seems the same strength.

I would bet it's from one of your pullets. Mine always lay small weird eggs when they first start laying.

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

I used to live in the 805. :)

Could be a new layer (how old are they)... hiccups often happen when the system is starting up or shutting down. Nothing to worry about as long as you have adequate calcium and nutrition available unless it becomes a regular occurrence.

Small world!
The only one who hasn't laid is an Easter egger, so I don't think she would lay a brown egg. The others laid fine today and I feel like they have adequate calcium. So may it's a hiccup like you said. But I will keep watch. Thanks for the advice!

It’s probably from a new one but I have had my hens Lay a squishy egg after coming out of molting. I believe it just has to do with them getting their systems in order. How long have your other ones been laying?
