Found an egg on my dock

Thank you! I really appreciate your advice. Is 55% humidity what you suggest?
Waterbirds are naturally exposed to high humidity, so 55% should be sufficient. If the air cell still doesn't increase in size (give it a week or so) decrease the humidity slightly.
Good luck! Excited to see the result of your egg!

It isn't because the feds want to be the hero. I'm a wildlife rehabilitator. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people try to 'do the right thing' and improperly care for an animal resulting in improper growth or something that makes them unreleasable into the wild. The reason the Migratory Bird Act exists is to prevent whole populations being decimated. It's in place so the balance of the ecosystem isn't thrown wildly out of wack. You may think it's just one bird, but it may go on to spawn many others or bring down invasive species etc. I know it isn't a malicious act in everyone's eyes but it's really better to let the professionals do it and let the animal live as natural a life as it can.
Whoa, I did say that the feds. were ok... sorry that you read it wrong... I can't speak type...😟

Cool! Thanks for chiming in! That's really cool that you've raised them before.

So, how is the egg or did you give it to the wildlife rescue?
The little embryo in there is moving! Shocking! Totally thought the egg had no hope. The wildlife centre has not gotten back to me so I am going to look for other places that can take it! Definitely do not want to just leave it now that I have seen the little guy moving. A tough spot to be in!

They're most likely distracted because of the pandemic. If you plan to move it, you should be careful. And you are doing great! Such an healthy baby!

I would strongly advise against transferring ownership of the egg until the chick has hatched. It's great news that the chick is developing!
