I don’t believe my EE chicks were yellow when I got them really young. So hard to tell that young. Maybe some kind of red? If the head is not currently Broody then I would not give it a chick there’s a good chance she will hurt it

Do you have any other young chicks? If not, your daughter can be sarragate mom! ( that might be fun) Be sure to keep it warm. Very cute chick!

Yes very cute chick And I bet your daughter would love being a Sarragate mom. I’m glad she saw that and you guys were able to save her. If she was just left outside to wander she would be good as dead And now she gets to have a good home

Update on this sweet baby chicken. The wings are feathered so was hoping someone could better guess a breed for this chick?

Def not an EE, They have pea combs, not a rhode island white, Barred rock, or a buff orph. It could be a missing chick from a school project? My guess is that it's a mix breed. Does not look like any of the breeds that have been mentioned so far.

My daughter found a tiny orphaned baby chick on her school grounds (definitely chicken or turkey although I wouldn't know how to ID it for sure). Of course we brought it home. We have it in a broader under a heat lamp with a stuffed animal to keep it "company" and plan to introduce it eventually to our backyard flock. Just wondering how to tell its age or breed? It is light yellow and has barely any feathers on its wings. It is about the length of my thumb. I was guessing less than a week old and we dont know how it made it all the way to her school! We are brand new to baby chicks and I know raising a single isn't ideal.. So I am open to any advice on helping this baby thrive. I also have an anxious hen that went broody then went crazy. And we keep her in a separate coop from the others. Would it be a huge risk to try to get her to "adopt" this baby? She is a spangled bantam.
I don't know about your hen, but putting a small mirror in with the baby will give it a "buddy"
