"Found Baby Bird With Bone Sticking Out Of Wing"

found this baby bird not shure of the breed or sex, but it has a puncture wound, the 1st top wing bone is sticking out and the area around it is missing feathers, swollen, and purple and stained with dry blood.

Here`s a close up the wound; again is not bleeding.

that is a baby chicken.

wash the wound with saline, if you have it, if not just some room temperature water.

If you have betadine, apply that as an antiseptic. do not use alcohol or anything that has lidocaine or anything that ends with "caine" in it. Apply neosporin on the cuts.

You need to keep this baby warm, if you have a box you could put the chick in on a towel and near a lamp. You might not have a brooder, so try and use an incandescent bulb if you have nothing else. make sure there is some heat.

do you have any gatorade in the house? drop some on its beak and make sure it swallows some - it needs to stay hydrated. If you have any plain yogurt, offer it some.

this chick couldn't have gone far - is there someone with chickens that lives nearby?

i don't know how you would deal with the wing and bone - you need a vet on that one to look at it

We have grown chickens, but we live in the middle of the city. There aren't other people in the area that have chickens from what we can tell. (I am his brother, but I am a couple of hours away right now.) We don't know anyone that has baby chickens and the ones that I just recently got were scooped up by a hawk or owl, so it probably got out the same day that it was found.

Runaway Kid, use an extra waterer with a mix of water and some Gatorade in it.

Right behind me they have chickens but there a different breed entirely we found one two weeks ago that is now gone and they came from the same place across the street in my neighbors backyard.
