For the baby silkies I managed to track down the owner gave them, but this time my brother‘s girlfriend found some baby birds but she can’t care for them she is worried her Cats may get a hold of them, so most wildlife rehabilitators said they are starlings and cant take them due to being an invasive species. Here’s a picture, how do I care for them ? Also is it true are they starlings

How did she know the mom wasn't coming back or nearby watching her nest get raided by the well meaning but sadly misinformed human?

Too many folks try to intervene in nature and actually cause more issues than they prevented.. did you see the story about the baby bison that was "rescued" by tourist.. Just for informational purposes and food for thought before the NEXT attempted rescue... the old saying that "the road to hell was paved with good intentions" rings so true in many things in life. :he

Also.. wildlife rehab told the whole story.. invasive species... means it's taking resources away from the species that actually belong here... essentially changing our ecology forever. Cats are actually invasive as well though.. noting I have two, and YES they wreak havoc on local songbirds in addition to keeping my barn clear of rodents. :hmm

I'm not judging here, so I apologize if it comes across that way! Life is a learning adventure and we don't all hold the same perspective, thankfully. :highfive:

I remove invasive plant species on a daily basis. Don't think I would be trying to save an invasive animal species... Let nature take it's course or dispatch as quickly and humanely as possible.. leave the carcass out for other wildlife to consume.

If you're gonna raise them.. you might be able to find useful info at...

Best wishes! :fl

They look like baby Starlings too me. If you can you could get a heat pad too keep them warm (you will want to look up the right temp to keep them at) otherwise I would put them in a box with some towels. You will need to feed them pretty often, what I have done before is get cat food (dog food might work too) and soak it until it's pretty mushy, you can feed them that on the end of a chopstick or something like that (I would not recomendable a toothpick, or a q-tip, because they could swallow it.) Hope this helped!

Update they where sick and their mother was eaten by her cat
Thanks for the update.. something losing it's life never feels good for us. :hugs

I did recently see a feral cat take a wild mallard duckling in my back pasture and 2 other cats going after the ducklings left behind. I "rescued" them since they were definitely in imminent danger. Despite previously raising domestic ducklings successfully, I failed to succeed with helping these. :(

How do I tag somebody?
To tag someone.. you can either quote them like I did you or you can use @ directly in front of their user name with no spaces like @Crestcrazy.

Hope this helps! :frow
