Found Chicken - Need Advice - Vet wants to amputate leg with gangrene

Thank you to itsy for providing the link to the treat chart -- that's just what I was looking for! I saw that citrus is not safe for chickens, and I'd almost given her some orange because I thought the vitamin C would be good for healing. I guess that's not true for chickens!

So glad to hear Rock came through surgery well and is on the way to recovery

Glad to hear Rocky is doing well! When I read your thread it made me think of a Vet that used to live in my area. From what I recall (I was teenager in 4-H at the time), he worked with Michigan State University Animal Hospitol to design and fit a prosthesis for a pet roo that he had. I know that he now practices in Chicago, Illinois. But he is good about answering his emails, as I have sought his advice on occassion. He may be able to give you some practical advice based on his experiences.

Keep us posted on how she is doing!! Hope things work out well.

You did a wonderful service for Rocky. You have a heart of gold. I really hope you keep her and add a few more. Chickens are a delight to have, not only for eggs but as pets too. They certainly grow on you as I'm sure she has already stole you heart. Good luck and let us all know how it goes. Oh and a big

Yay for Rocky! You did a such a kind thing. Please keep us posted and I'm sure if you do decide to keep Rocky the folks at BYC will give you all the help you need. I could have sworn she was a boy too. Let us know if "she" crows!

Kudos to you for getting that bird much needed attention/surgery.
I would have to say definite roo there, a gorgeous one.
Beware of predators (raccoons etc).

It wouldn't be much to care for one bird really ~
if you decide to get another for company, I do recommend my introducing page.
Good luck either way!
