From your photo, Its pretty strange, I couldnt see puncture wounds like a fox might make, looks like the poor thing was scalped. Strange. When an eagle or hawk catches these birds , they proceed to rip out feathers like that. the bird bay have been too big for it to fly off with.

Sorry you lost one of your new geese. My best guess would be another goose. I'll bet one of your females was accidentally drowned by the gander. I've never lost a goose that way, but I have lost ducks that way before. Usually it's a young male who just gets a little too excited. Yours are pretty young, right?

I am not sure who did it, but would like to say that I am truly sorry for you loss.

So so sorry for your loss...No, we haven't had this happen, but we did have a goose stil her neck out a fencing and came to a very sad demise.

there are no wounds other than looking scalped. so i automatically thought it was the geese. they were used to being free ranged when i bought them, then i brought them home and put them in a 24 ft by 18 ft cage. they must have gotten bored.

i decided a week was enough time for them to learn their surroundings, so they free range now. they havent fought at all and seem happy.
