Hello,

I had a flock of 4 now 3 females. 2 WH, 1 Khacki, 1 Pekin.

This afternoon I went out to the coop to find one of my WH dead in the pond with no signs of injury other than the pond had alot of her feathers in it. She was healthy as can be the day before running around the yard and there is no way a predatory could have gotten into their enclosure. Could my pekin have killed her or somehow drown her ? The pekin duck is new we have had her for about 8 months and the other 3 are about 3 years old.

I’m sorry for your loss, you say there were a lot of feathers in the pool? Any wounds? I know females will play mate with other females but I’ve never heard of one drowning or killing another.

yeah no wounds just some feathers my only thought is maybe she started to molt ? and got waterlogged and was unable to get out of the pond ? I am not sure she was a great duck whole family pretty bummed out

It's just hard to know for sure what may have happened. Is there a possibility a snapping turtle may have drowned her? they will drag a duck under and drown them but they also eat them. So if no wounds most likely not a snapper.
