Some chickens hate the water, some love it. Kinda like my dogs - One thinks of water only because he has to drink it, the other paddles happily in any mud puddle she finds (go figure!).

What's ironic is that the hen that went in the pool was the same one we had to give a bath a couple months earlier! I guess she missed being in the water

Just found my chicken in the pool.... Just concerned because I think she has been there all day...(hiding behind a float) and I missed her when looking for our 7th girl... Husband
Took her out and she was shivering .... Put her in hutch and put the heat lamp on to warm her...... Think she'll b ok?????

I think it's more that a relaxed chicken can float. When they unintentionally fall in the pool, they panic and can drown. Also it's harder to get out than get in. If there is a ramp nearby or some float they can get onto - they would probably be fine till someone helps them out.

I have shown everyone I know Keltara's bathing beauties, hens and children, they just can't get over it. Everyone looks blissfully involved.

Putting her under the heat lamp was the right thing to do. She should be okay once she warms up. So I suppose chickens may not love to swim, but they may learn to like floating with some human help, or wading in a shallow pool to cool off on a hot day.
