Found our first egg today!!!

Hi, very excited we found our first egg today - now what? We have a mix of roosters and hens, is this most likely a fertilized egg? (help!)

Congratulations on the egg! It may or may not be fertile, it depends if your birds are breeding. Even if it's a fertilized egg, you can still eat it. And welcome to BYC!

Hard to say unless you crack it open and find a "small white circle" on the yolk, that means your egg is fertilized.

Congratulations! You can eat it or try and hatch it. Just a suggestion, I prefer eating them.

Eat it!!! But in honor of the first egg, I like to find the perfect recipe: maybe lightly scrambled? the star of a morning omelet? poached and served over a slice of toasted home-made bread? I've got 16 young hens (hatched 20 July) who should start laying anytime soon. I'm already making plans for those first eggs.

that is about the time my chicks would have hatched too! It IS so exciting and I ate it last night - was the best egg I ever tasted!
