Hi, very excited we found our first egg today - now what? We have a mix of roosters and hens, is this most likely a fertilized egg? (help!)

Congratulations on the egg! It may or may not be fertile, it depends if your birds are breeding. Even if it's a fertilized egg, you can still eat it. And welcome to BYC!

Hard to say unless you crack it open and find a "small white circle" on the yolk, that means your egg is fertilized.

Congratulations! You can eat it or try and hatch it. Just a suggestion, I prefer eating them.

Eat it!!! But in honor of the first egg, I like to find the perfect recipe: maybe lightly scrambled? the star of a morning omelet? poached and served over a slice of toasted home-made bread? I've got 16 young hens (hatched 20 July) who should start laying anytime soon. I'm already making plans for those first eggs. :-)

that is about the time my chicks would have hatched too! It IS so exciting and I ate it last night - was the best egg I ever tasted!
