Any advice would be appreciated. Yesterday my best friend stopped to pick up a banded pigeon that was literally just wandering on the road. She and it almost got hit a few times, but the bird just finally collapsed and at no time did it make any attempt to fly away.
He? She? is very thin, was strong enough to pull back when I extended the wings to check for injuries though. Not a huge fuss but more of a hey, let go of my wing lady! There are no injuries visible, feathers appear healthy no mites seen. I'm guessing this just got lost/disoriented and needs some food and time to recover.
Right now its in a cage, with water and seed and a heat lamp on because it was fluffed a lot and seemed cool to the touch. Definitely seems more comfortable since I got the heat lamp on it. Poops yesterday were fairly normal, more liquid than what I commonly see in parrots but I don't know squat about pigeons. He/she has been eating voraciously and drinking readily. Poops this morning were more liquid but still within normal color range so perhaps its just the system trying to recover from a period without any food to suddenly having food again? I did offer some chopped greens yesterday which he/she ate and the poops turned a lovely shade of green
So I know digestion is occurring.
I researched the band info (621 IF SVN 2010) and sent an email to the listing of the club that it appears to belong to. Not sure what else to do. It was preening earlier, always a good sign when they are feeling well enough to take care of their appearance.
I know parrots, and I know chickens, and I can wing it (no pun intended) with waterfowl but I don't really know much about pigeons. Any words of wisdom?
Thanks!!
