hello.
my boss found a robins egg on the ground. she brought it in her house and put a heat source lamp on it. wrapped it also with a towel. can she hatch this? she asked me, thinking i might know. i dont. so i am coming here for help. she did not find a nest in sight, nor a robin flying about. what are your thoughts? thanks in advance.

can they? maybe

should they? i don't know, are their laws against owning a wild animal in your area?

it will be more difficult this way, than if you had an incubator, but it can be done. my uncle hatched a pigeon egg in his oven when i was a teenager (wild pigeon)

The best thing would be to replace the egg in the nest if it can be found. Perhaps it will be accepted by the mother. Hatching a robins egg without an incubator and close attention would be difficult.

My mother told me a story years ago of a lady that found an injured baby robin and nursed it to health. It was kept as a pet and it would even fly around outside and return back to the house. I suppose the lady became its parent. They bought worms and hand fed the bird. Just Amazing!

Could it have possibly been a discarded egg?

Often on my farm I will find pigeon, robin and various other eggs that have been discarded in late spring.

The cutest eggshells by far are the barn swallows--so tiny!

Robin's can count so adding it to any nest it didn't already come from will just get it tossed back out. I have hatched a robin in an incubator. First off it's illegal everywhere. Second you have to hand feed the robin every few hours all day for weeks. Third you have to spend weeks readjusting them back to the wild. Very few people are in a position where it works out and most baby birds die. Which is why it's illegal.

Not trying to put her down or anything but its probably already dead from not being turned and being dropped on the ground. I have found robin eggs in baseball fields or open lots.

thanks for the replies, i called my boss and let her know, left a message on her answering machine. thanks again!!!
