I thought I was just having a problem with the chickens eating their eggs, so I put some ceramic eggs in the nest boxes and started to collect eggs multiple times a day. Funny enough one of the ceramic eggs went MIA on the first day. Hmmmmm. Yesterday I found the real reason why I wasn't getting more eggs.

Don't mind the feathers, I've got some juveniles molting, but I am sad to say I had to dispatch this beautiful black snake. You can clearly see the ceramic egg stuck down it's body. I felt it was more humane then trying to relocate it and it dying a very slow death from impaction. If it had only stuck to taking care of mice and rats I would have left it alone since I don't currently have any babies.

RIP Black Snake

It's good that you identified the thief, and I admire you for both appreciating the beauty of that snake and regretting its death. I know it's not a popular stance, but I've always liked snakes, and this poor thing clearly made a very bad meal choice.
