found this link on newsweek about killing all the mustangs!!!!!

From the articles I've read they have almost as many horses in holding pens as they do on the range, adoptions are down drastically and well over 75% of the BLM's budget is now going to care and feeding of these horses. Yes it's sad to put them down but remember that horses were not always here in the Americas, they were brought over from Europe by the explorers and some escaped.

I appreciate them as much as anyone, but I dislike seeing emotion override common sense. They aren't good horses, and they're ecologically destructive in large numbers. Most of the folks you hear expressing forceful opinions about Mustangs don't know a left lead canter from a fetlock. Unless they're willing to put their money where their mouths are and adopt ten or twenty thousand of them, let's leave it to the professional biologists.

You've got to be kidding me! Are we moving back in time or what? How about budget cutting some of the money we are spending on other countries (supposedly spending then finding out that crooked contractors are the ones benefiting) and keep it here where it belongs? There are so many other ways to cut the budget, but you don't want to get me started there.

The BLM has mismanaged the land and animals for years; I used to be active in this very issue in the early 70's.

The main reason behind this has nothing to do with budget cuts but cattle ranchers overgrazing cattle, which in turn causes a conflict with wildlife - whether it be buffalo (which eat the same grasses) or coyotes and wolves, which have to eat as well and are accused of killing large numbers of cattle - all untrue.

Wildlife and other resources will continue to pay a heavy price in the name of economy and on the pretense of feeding Americans.

And the reason for the overpopulation (the very same reason deer are a problem) is that their natural enemies were exterminated or removed from the area. If humans didn't interfere with the natural balance of life, we wouldn't have so many conflicts between people and animals.

I know for a fact that if enough people express their concern, this action can at least be stalled. And whether or not the horses were originally born on American soil hundreds of years ago, they were still a huge part of our history and should be preserved.

I whole heartedly agree. statistically our national parks are not being used as they were when they were established.

Oh that is hitting the hail on the head. And some of the things they do is just disgusting and cruel. Same thing with the wolves. Heck, the farmers are paid for lost livestock to wolves but the greedy suckers claim 5 when they lost 1 so states like Alaska who have had complete idiots in charge open aerial hunting....disgusting! They get in planes and chase the wolves to exhaustion then shoot them...males, females, babies...

If you two have enough money to establish and maintain Feral Spanish Horse National Park, I'm all for it.

I wish I did but we do not need too...there is enough land not being used and merely sitting there that they would have all the room they needed, they are just too lazy to do it.

What would you propose when all the hypothetical extra land also had too many Mustangs to support? A range war could ignite if the Nutria Liberation Front thought your introduced species was competing with theirs.
