You can tell it's bull cookies from the first sentence "after surviving the ice-age".
Sorry these horses are feral, they were released when the Spanish (and I'm sure any pioneers going west) had horses escape. They have DNA tests...etc to prove that. Any horses that were in the America's before the ice age had been hunted out long before the Spanish came here. Besides any horse that evolved from before the ice age would not look like that. They would look like przewalski's horse, something more fitting to the wilds.
They are not killing them all and besides do you think horses sold at an auction for less then $100 really go to happy homes?? Maybe a few, but I bet the majority of them take a ride in a stock trailer straight to the slaughter house. IMO they take more work then the average horse person is prepared for. Even here you see ads for Mustangs that people can't get near begging someone to take this horse they thought they were rescuing.
I am a horse lover, but what are you going to do?? Euthanize or let them starve to death. Pick your choice. Personally I would euthanize, since we can't turn back time and start plowing down people's homes and reclaiming property for a horse that didn't even evolve here.
Rescues are already overwhelmed, between PMU, track, overbreeding and idiot owners and is it really fair to take them and plop in a fenced in corral just so no one sees the pretty horse die? There are private landowners all over the west that allow these horses to roam on their land, but with no fences they can't make them stay.
And let's take off the rose colored glasses for a bit...
I would rather see cattle grazing land then standing in a feedlot. You can't have it both ways.
And I love to here how people say well it's people living an infringing on the wildlife's land. Sorry, but do you all live in a highrise or do you have a nice spread?? We could all live in big skyscrapers surrounded by forests and not let a single creature be effected by our existence. But really, what would we do with our chickens?
We are part of the problem.
