Foundation Confusion

I believe this coop just sits on top of the cinder block foundation, set in place by its own weight. If there is a tornado or a mass flood, this coop (and mine too) would have been blown or washed away. However, if you are not expecting these types of sever weather condition in your area, it should be fine. Show the contractor some photos of what you have in mind.

Thanks ever so much yellowchicks! I appreciate your input and the link! I am not expecting any tornados or floods in the near future, but we do get earthquakes. I find it difficult to be prepared for every possible emergency, so I just do the best I can. Now here is hoping that the husband changes his attitude and will build this for us and save us a lot of money. Perhaps I can just hire out parts of it that I know he would get annoyed with. Hoping to start purchasing materials next build and build it this fall. Wish me luck.

In an earthquake prone zone, I would suggest that the cinder block cap be mortared onto the cinder block so that there are minimum lateral shifting of the foundation elements. Instead of setting the frame flushed with the front face of the cinder block foundation as in the other example coop, set your frame on the center of the cinder block, so to have some room for the lateral movement without the frame offset from the foundation blocks.

Thank you for these tips. I will be sure we do this. I had figured the cinder block caps should be attached to cinder blocks. Would an adhesive work for that? I saw they make some sort of adhesive to use with cinder blocks. Do you think I should have the frame attached to the cinder block caps as well or is that not possible? I don't need this falling down with the first good jolt we get after it is built. It is always something isn't it?
