Thanks ever so much yellowchicks! I appreciate your input and the link! I am not expecting any tornados or floods in the near future, but we do get earthquakes. I find it difficult to be prepared for every possible emergency, so I just do the best I can. Now here is hoping that the husband changes his attitude and will build this for us and save us a lot of money. Perhaps I can just hire out parts of it that I know he would get annoyed with. Hoping to start purchasing materials next build and build it this fall. Wish me luck.I believe this coop just sits on top of the cinder block foundation, set in place by its own weight. If there is a tornado or a mass flood, this coop (and mine too) would have been blown or washed away. However, if you are not expecting these types of sever weather condition in your area, it should be fine. Show the contractor some photos of what you have in mind.
