Four 4 week old chicks died suddenly

Out of 10 four are dead and 6 are lethargic. Two days ago they were trying to fly out of the brooder. There are no signs of trauma. Any ideas?

Oh no! I'm very sorry to hear this. Question, are they on medicated feed? The amprollium (medication) in the feed works by blocking thiamine (vitamin B1) uptake. When chicks become B1 deficient it can result in confusion and death. I've heard of others seeing this problem in chicks eating medicated feed.

I did change their feed from medicated starter to grower about a week ago.I don't know if the grower is medicated or not.

I would go and get some corid right now if you can, and treat them for cocci. I'm so sorry!! I'm sure this is so stressful, but that is the first thing I would do!

Lost two more but the 4 remaining are looking much better.Hope they are out of the woods.

Glad to hear the last 4 are doing better. Its so sad when babies die. I lost 2 of my 18 the first night I had them.
Hope yours continue to be healthy.
