I looked at the first pics from 5 weeks first and I only saw 2 pullets (# 1 & 3). I have orpingtons as well and at that age if they have any red at all in the wattles and I declare them a roo. Looking at this picture I will still maintain that your Lavender is a rooster. It's due to both the size and color. It's a nice looking roo & he seems to have feathered out nicely. I had tried lavenders once and the feathering was horrible even at 10 weeks, theres a mutation linked closely to the Lavenders where that can happen.
that's kind of what i thought too...but i really wish he were a hen! glad he's feathered well!I looked at the first pics from 5 weeks first and I only saw 2 pullets (# 1 & 3). These were the 3 girls I bought; see how small they are. They were the first chickens I had in over 10 years. WHen I posted pictures, people thought they were much younger than 8 weeks, which they were stated to be by the breeder. Their feathering was horrible and the other birds surpassed them quickly. It turned me off to Lavenders and I got rid of all 3. I have since had 2 more batches of Orps and have learned some grow faster than others depending on the breeder. Those Lavenders were just poorly bred, in my opinion. Your is beautiful though =)
wow, that is a huge difference. though certainly this lavender is petite compared to the black orpington roosters i have! thank youThese were the 3 girls I bought; see how small they are.
