Im pretty sure after looking at pictures and reading articles on the intrrnet that mrs frizzle has fowl pox. She has crusty black lesions on her comb, wattle and round her eye and gas started shaking her head. I also have noticed that she is rattling when she breathes the kast couple of days. Other than that she is going about the day like normal. I first noticed the black around the eye sone weeks ago but sad to say i didnt act as i thought it was just her face markings. Nos i have had a good look she has black crusty lesions. I have put some Vaseline on today and will continue doing this each day for the week and then apply betadine when the scabs soften. Will i need to give antibiotics for the rattly beathing or wait and see if she improves.

Pictures would help ... The scabs maybe Fowl Pox which is caused by mosquitos, where is your location? If it is Fowl Pox, it will tend it's self, no meds required. However the "shaking of head" and "rattling when breathing" could be a respiratory issue. Hopefully you'll be able to post a picture and others will peep in with their opinions.

We are in australia and its pretty hot some days as we are in summer. Mr frizzle has been stressed recently dealing with her young cockrel that wont seperate. We are about to rehome him hopefully this week but mrs frizzle will then be an only chicken. Maybe thats good until she is well and then we may get her a couple of friends. I just need to sort this problem out first.

Thank you so much everybody. Nasty little critters. i put olive oil on them this morning and when I got home mrs frizzle had been dust bathing and some of them had come off. She had really rubbed her face in the dirt and it is now very dirty. I've just put vaseline on them this afternoon and I guess Ill do this each day this week. Its hard to do near her eyes as she moves her head all the time. do you think i would be better with olive oil around the eyes instead. Im just applying gently sideways with my finger so that i don't poke her in the eyes. I checked her vent and under her wings and they seems clear at this stage. Her young boy Churchill doesn't seem to have any either. Il read up about what to do next. I can put new bedding down and I need something to dust their feathers with or put in water and dunk them up to their necks. In this really hot weather a little bit of a bath now and again is probably nice for them. Any suggestions about what to do or not to do would be appreciated.
