Im really worried and sad because my old english bantams are sick i have 42 birds but only 1/3 are sick. Can anyone please give some advice or share personal experiences with fowl pox. From what i have read from research, there is no cure and it goes away on its own. Hera are some questions and concerns.
1). Is there a cure? because an old man sold me some capsules that he said would cure my birds?
2). Is it fatal? Only one looks really bad only his comb looks deformed
3). What should i do next? Should i wait to cure it self?
4). Will my bird if they make it, will have permanent evidence or scars or deformed combs and wattles?

hi I looked this up in my chicken health book for you. first no its not fatal only 1-2% will die from pox second is there a treatment yes and no it says to prevent secondary infection you should use terramycin 300 mg per gallon of water. this keeps a secondary infection away.for three days. then follow up with a vitamin supplement
it should last 2 to 4 weeks.it says to remove scabs around mouth and eyes so birds can eat. clean housing well after out break. they will naturally recover. it also says it can reappear in times of stress. it says insect bites can cause it. and pox spreads slowly. now as for scars I'm not sure it has no mention of that. hope this was helpful! best of luck!

from what I understand there are 2 kinds of FP, internal and external, or/wet and dry. the wet I think are worse.
there is a vaccine. how ever it needs to be given to healthy birds. will not cure only prevent. something you may want to do now that you havehad it.
I am not sure if those that recover are carriers or not. If you can isolate those that have not got it yet that would be good as I think they can get it from pecking at the open sores
I would clean the coop very well and maybe spray with bleach water. Disinfectant of some kind.
I do think they will recover fine for the most part, I have not dealt with this so I can't say from experience.

Best to go on line and read up as much as you can, check several different sources.
