Not sure I’m doing this right but here goes.

Have been lurking and learning from this forum for quite a while. Great place to hang out!

I live in SW Louisiana and started my flock about a month before Hurricane Laura so in our first year we have experienced two hurricanes, roughly ten spin-off tornados, a week of record freezes, power outages, lack of water, and the list goes on. Not all the birds survived but as a result of adopting displaced birds, the Fowl Weather Flock now boasts quite a variety. Chickens include seven hens - two easter eggers, four “little red hens”, and a black australorpe - and two silkie roos. Ducks include various numbers of mallards, depending on migratory season, some rouens, muscovies and one hysterically funny Pekin.

These birds are wonderful. I got interested in pastured poultry after learning of the plight of factory-raised meat and am a crusader against factory farms.

I have tried incubating and have found it very difficult, especially for ducks, so am focusing on observing natural brooding behavior. Very steep learning curve and this forum has been a Godsend!

Wishing you calmer weather in the days ahead.
