x2. It's illegal in many states to relocate trapped critters, because of the rabies situation, and foxes, raccoons, and possums are definitely on that list. If you relocate, the animal will have a poor chance of survival in strange territory, and is trap-wise and loves chicken. Electric poultry netting, or electric rope or wire fencing works well. My birds free range 13 plus acre. It would be cost prohibitive to electric fence it all. Electric fences are not perfect, Predators tunnel, weeds and trees short them out, slob hunters leave gates open, birds fly over them. I will not mutilate my birds wings for any reason.

I prefer Ivan's idea. I have fences they have their purposes. If I had to keep my birds in fences they would not accomplish their main chore which is to control box elder bugs and Asian beetles. They would not control the cut the pests in the garden. I would be forced to use pesticides making my environment less healthy. I would add a pair of good dogs to his mix though.

I understand some people are queasy around traps and do not trust themselves with a gun. Fortunately, I grew up on a farm and learned early in life what a person has to do to protect his livestock is not always neat clean and pretty. BTW I am surrounded by thousands of acres of federal forest land, there is no other choice to control predators.

I wasn't suggesting an electric fence for you - I was suggesting it to the poster. Without knowing their setup, a fence is still possibly an option.

Ahh We have the point of disagreement. War on foxes can and would include at least some fences. War demands both offensive and defensive methods. If the poster does not "declare war" on the fox he will soon have no chickens to raise. You assumed "war" meant to simply kill them, your error.

My Error was assuming you thought fox and chickens could peaceably co-exist with the chickens safely in a prison.

Relocating an animal that has a taste for farm animals. like chickens, is simply moving the problem to someone else. You have not solved the problem. I would never "relocate" a predator, I prefer to take care of my own problems and dirty work and not have to p to someone else and their flock.

It's also illegal pretty much everywhere.


You're raising prey animals - it's your responsibility to keep them safe. Put up some fences.

OR just keep them in a large run 247, or just use  alive trap. ( not that retarded inhumane leg snare though, they do damage..... ) and relocate or go to a nature preserve and ask what u can do with him.

If she relocates a fox, I hope it is at your house. I don't want him at my place.

Haha... honestly I wouldn't mind the foxes that much if they just took one or two chickens every once in a while but we have so many chickens on our road and there are so many foxes that when they come they tale all of my chickens which is only 9. My dad has shot one Fox but before he shot that one he saw ANOTHER one walking in our woods. so many foxes!!!

Many predators have a very wide range of territory and WILL be back once they know where an easily captured meal is located. Fences may keep in domesticated animals to an extent. But they won't keep out a determined predator (not for long anyway). Visualization of the "terrorist", a 7 second trial, a guilty verdict (and guilty by association if more than one), and a speedy execution can be very therapeutic! Especially if you've lost an entire flock in one evening previously.
