Fox bait.....What works best?

I use a combination of food odors and a good gland lure to catch the ones that I catch

We just caught the fox we have been trying to trap for months.... AND we did not catch him in the trap....

I have a burn pile in my back yard for yard debrie. One afternoon, I dumped some hamburger grease on the pile.
That evening we went out about 30 - 60 minutes after the sun set and found the fox eating the grease in the burn pile.....

So, I recommend bacon or hamburger grease as your bait. It will draw them to your space, but I don't know if it will be enough
of an incenative for them to crawl in the trap....

I agree. I think fox are just high up on the animal intelligence chart and are very wary of entering tight cramped spaces. He/she knows there is no exit on the other side and they feel very vulnerable enter a tight spot like a trap.

Nor was he afraid of 3 livestock guardian dogs that could not cross an underground wire control collar area. We relocated everything within the dogs area. But some flew over the fence and got nailed.

Is it a cage trap? Is it a red fox or grey?

It is a fox trap with a bait cage in the upper end. It was special ordered for us by our Game & Fish.

The fox is grey.

this why most of the time with the steel traps I use I catch the animal the next day with a cage trap you need to wire the cage open and "feed" the fox for a coupla days "blendin" the cage in with its surroundings helps a lot a little skunk musk mixed with the bait or lure will speed thongs along as well a lure bait like gusto or just mice will help a good deal a cage on the largish size helps too 12-15 W 15-18H 42"+D
