Fox bit chickens leg off

Whenever I've taken chickens to the vets in the past no vet locally seems to be experienced in chickens. Will that make a difference do you Think? Or is shortening the bone and sewing up the skin the same on any animal?
The biggest difference will be administration of any anesthesia or anesthetic. I would call around and at least try to find a vet that is comfortable working on a bird.

We've been trying to figure out what happened. I can see scratch marks in the grass next to the run. I don't think it actually got in. I think the chickens panicked. Started flapping about and this one got it's leg poking out of the wire and the fox must have just bitten it off.

The nearest chicken specialist vet was 45 minutes away. Looked online and it has moved to 90 mins away! Going to keep her comfy overnight. See if she survives the shock and ring vets in the morning and see if anyone has the expertise to see chickens.

That sounds like a raccoon as well. With a bone exposed, you will need antibiotics. Betadine or chlorhexidene (Hibiclens) and water are good to use to clean the wound, then keep it wrapped in a bandage. Any regular vet could help with an amputated leg. I hope that you can find one. Fish Mox amoxicllin is found in some feed stores, and you can also find procaine penicliin G injectable and syringes with 20 gauge needles in feed stores in the refrigerated medicines. Other antibiotics would come from a vet.

Where do you live ?
