Fox getting a little to close for comfort.

Hi all,

I have a fox around my place, I'm sure. Two nights ago it came right through my area behind the chicken coop. I'm afraid that it's getting a little to close every night. I've tried using a "Have-A-Heart" trap but it's not working at all. I was wondering how I can catch the fox? It coming through in the middle of the night so I couldn't sit up with a gun.

Some of my neighbors have outdoor cats that come on my property a lot so I would hate to hurt one of them....but that fox. I'm getting worried.

What bait and method are you using with your live trap? And if you catch him, what then?

But.....if you coop is secure, does it matter if a fox is lurking about?

Please do not concentrate your efforts to hurt/kill fox. Focus on securing your coop, and run.
Consider a Hot Wire, and bait it. That usually sends a message to the predator to stay away.
A fox has his place in nature,, and they do need to eat. They do control rodents that we have trouble controlling ourselves.
By making your coop secure, fox will have to resort to mice and other rodents, instead of your chickens.

I was using some freshly killed mice and was gonna try warm tunafish.
If I got him I was going to shoot. Yes, my coop is secure.

If you kill off the natural predator of rodents, be prepared for more of them. Like Rich said ....

Sorry. Me killing every fox or coyote I can will have zero effect on rodents. Never had mouse or rat issues.
