Fox grabbed one of my hens today.

The dogs are Blue Heelers that my fiance raises. The dogs would have to be chained inside the barn since the front of the barn is open with no walls. Did not see any signs of the foxes today. I probably scared them last night when I saw one by the drainpipe under her grandma's driveway who lives next door. I started walking toward it and it went into the pipe. I had my 22 pistol and shot inside the pipe twice but must have missed. We could then see their eyes shining in the pasture across the road which is her neighbor's so we didn't shoot since he runs cows in there and it was dark.

I actually caught one of the foxes in the trap today or last night. The trap was placed in the barn about five feet from one of the holes. I think I actually have two dens because I found the other hole not far from the first hole on the other side of the barn and there is fox feces by the entrances to all four holes.

I shot at another fox yesterday out in the pasture but it was too far away for my 22 rifle. It was limping but when I shot it took off like it had fire under it's tail.

As for the dogs, they would have to be chained out in the barn because if they would be left out, they would probably run off because they have been kenneled all of their life and the other issue is my fiance and her grandmother run cattle here as well as all of the neighbors around us and we don't want them running the cattle. Some of them also like to kill cats which we found out when a couple of them accidently got out and we don't want that either.

I'm going to see how the trap works and if I don't catch anymore, then we might try chaining one of the dogs up in the barn for awhile but I don't know if my fiance will go for that or not. We will see what happens.

I had just let my chickens out to free range about 6:30pm and went back into the house. My fiance was outside burning trash when I heard her yell something about the chickens. I ran outside toward where she went and saw the rest of my chickens running back toward me. I saw the fox out in the pasture and could see it had a chicken in it's mouth. I ran toward it and hopped the fence and the fox dropped the chicken and took off. The hen was still alive but had a pretty bad wound on it's back. We put some triple antibiotic cream on it and will see what happens. I don't know if she will make it or not. She still walks around.

Something killed one of my roosters the other day when we were out of town and I assume it was the fox since it dug under the pen he was in. It couldn't get him out of the pen though.

Now I'm going to have to find a way to kill it. I wish I would have had my gun with me but they are pretty fast so I don't know if I could hit it or not. I may try getting a trap and see if I can catch it that way. The first two years of having chickens and no problems and now this third year has been bad.

Any ideas on the best way to get a Fox?

My hens free range all day long, and a fox got 2 of them.

Here is a couple of pics of the one I caught. No luck since though.

WOW!! I am so impressed! I have been trying to trap my fox(es) for weeks now; they won't go near the trap. I even have video of them walking out of their way to go way around it. Can you share your secrets?
Thanks!
