Fox help!

Well I have the electric fence and love it but now that I have over 18 inches of snow on the ground (in the last 2 days). I don't think it will work. So ? do I have to shovel all around that electric fence to keep it working or is there something else l can do. Maybe a snow melting electric fence like the weed eater one?

i have a dog that is a GREAT guard dog, but sometimes we finally get her out when the fox already has one. that is, if we don't hear her barking in the middle of the night, or if we can't let her get out in time, then the fox can get away.

thanks for all the help so far!!!

I bought an electric poultry net system from Premier. I see a lot of foxes around during the day and so far no issues (knock on wood!) As far as weather, Premier also sells little testers that read from 1-10 kV. Whenever the weather is bad or there are a lot of leaves around, I send my husband out to check the voltage with the tester... I don't want to get zapped.

How high would an electric fence have to be to keep them out? Every six inches for 5 feet would be 10 strands!!!!!!!!! Yikes.

All my chickens (2 RI Reds, 1 Silkie) were killed by a fox in broad daylight Christmas Eve Day. I'd let them out of their coop, gone inside for a short while (our property is fenced in), forgotten to let the dog out, and when I went out 30 minutes later, the fox was leaving our yard after decapitaing the RI Reds and biting the neck of the Silkie, killing her. I'm so sad I was not more mindful of my beloved chickens' safety. The day after Christmas I got 2 Red Star chickens that are wonderful, but will never replace my first beloved chickens.
