I would say the best way to do it is put your trap inside the run or coop and make the door of the trap looks like the door of your run or coop. be sure you cover the floor with something that feels like the surrounding ground, you can use artificial grass if the area is green
You can put a chicken wire between the door of the trap and the trigger mechanism to prevent you hens and untargeted species to get caught, a fox will pull out the chicken wire.
If the fox is not trying to get your chickens I would leave him alone, in my experience I leave the shy foxes alone "they eat rabbits and rats for me", if you despatch a shy fox you might get a brazen one.
