I haven't posted for awhile, but I just caught a fox in the act of carrying off a speckled Sussex. I chased it down and it dropped the bird. She has a slight limp, but otherwise pecking around the yard with the flock. Kind of crazy.

Lucky timing on your part! Glad your girl seems okay.

And, you must be a lot faster than I am -- the fox would have left me far behind -- and had time to turn around and laugh at me, too.

A similar thing happened before, but I was further away when they made a racket and lost that one. I did notice, they aren't that fast carrying a chicken.

It will keep coming back around lurking looking for an opportunity and usually when you least expect it, it will strike. You were lucky this time but may not be so lucky the next. Lessons learned the hard way. Good luck...

I lost a one to a fox last week. Sooner or later I'll have a chance to shoot it. I shot one that was bugging me last year.

I put out some live traps and caught the one that was plaguing my birds. I did eliminate it.
