Red Fox are imported, invasive, ornamentals (like Snakeheads). I'd give a grey a pass (native). Electric fencing is good.
Don't let the chooks range if you are not around, foxes will take out a flock in a hurry.
Without retiring them from the target pool on a consistent basis there is no way to reduce the overall frequency of predation from this vermin.
They are normally brazen about their attacks (healthy foxes) so cut back any low brush along borders of yard/property. They will try to grab a chook with a human standing no more than ten yards away.
We took out 18 in 2007, the population has yet to rebound (3 in 2008/ 1 in 2009).
