Foxes are getting rediculous*good update*

Instead of trapping them id rather just make a really secure run. Foxes will be foxes, and with foxes come more foxes, catching or killing one wont teach the others that its not okay. Nor will it stop Fishers, Coyotes, or the cats that like to sit beside the arena and watch me ride.

im sorry you feel that way pa but leg traps are cruel, even if i lived in PA i would still do it, im sorry if you feel that they need to be shot. if you take the fox to the woods and release there is no prob with other people having the fox problem. and yes a fox will go into a live trap, but why should a fox go into a live trap when there is easier game right in front of them, its common sense where people lack. wether its illegal or not people need to take responsibility for thier actions the wild life was there first, if you are going to have animals chickens, cats, dogs etc then there is a possiblity that a pred will get them. but if you keep them penned the threat goes way down, im sorry if you think that the wildlife needs to leave where your at pa but it doesnt work that way. and the sooner you relize that the better. where im at i have coyote, fox, opposums, hawks, bobcats, and possibliity of a stray cougar about if you are going to have a free meal running about pa expect that something is going to happen sooner or later. oh and by the way pa if you leg trap any wild animal besides the noises like you wouldnt believe that also calls bigger preds around and i dont think thats what malbri wants.

build a strong run would be the best thing to do, contrary to what you hear. depending on how many you hav get a dog kennel and put a top and chicken wire around it and you wont have the pred prob anymore, i have not had any pred trying to get in and i have watched them out the window.

I stop them all, i like to keep there populations down, also with rabies being a possible issue to, if you have children and of course dogs and cats about they can also be victims of over population.
**.A good run and closeable coop is a must, three sided building don't work for very long...

However if you plan to free-range you must think ahead and keep critters at bay have a good plan that works guns, traps are just some of things you will need..

even rats and mice will need to be dealt with..You don't want these smaller critters in and around your coops and runs..Poisons are not an option for us, we use mouse and rat traps when needed..

Believe me Ive have poultry for over 15+ years and in those 15 years i can only remember ever loosing a few young chickens to preds of the wing..none to land critters..

simba49450 how do you feel about eating red meats, also Ive been a trapper for over 30 years...You dont know what you are talking about other than ramblings from your readings from animal activest sites...Leg traps do not harm the animals, ive released cats that had no dammage to them after a catch, if you use the right traps and set them properly they wont hurt the animal in severity..Of course they will be brused a bit. but not smashed if done right like you think. Go do some more reading and get your facts right..

i eat meat pa that has nothing to do with it, the simple fact is your solution is to kill or leg trap them which doesnt solve anything, first its a fox then a coyote after that who knows. if a bald eagle takes one of your chickens you gonna shoot it considering its an endagered species, if more people thought like you pa there would be nothing left. i have been keeping poultry for sometime and have never had any prob cause i repect nature and what the wildlife will do if given the oppertunity. obviously your solution is to kill it , and i thought that humans were the more intellegent species. remember that pa before you shoot an endangered species cause you are not responsible enough to handle the wildlife around you. others have figuered this out maybe in another 15+ years you may too.

My run is going to have hardware cloth on every side (including top and bottom) and will have wood 3 feet up so nothing can reach in. They can live here, they just cant eat my chickens. If ya kill the predators, the mice will come....

Hunting and trapping are in place for a reason. They keep wild populations under control. Let a fox population get out of control and you have other problems, like mange..which can be passed on to your dog. Fox cannot be compared with birds of prey. They are not endangered. We legally hunt and trap here which all have a right to do..

You can thank your local trappers and hunters for you not having pred problems..
Also when all else fails you will reconsider these methods or folks wont have birds freeranging..

Last entry..dont want to see this post get locked..not my intentions..

Thanks
Charlie

I'm not agaisnt hunting, I just cant do it myself. Also, my dog has his enclosed run too with walks on a leash, so that isnt a problem.

Edited for rudeness.
