FPC Fall Poultry Show - Morganton, NC - Oct 30 - results(page 4)

What kind of testing gets done, can anyone enter? We have 2 Americanas that are really nice, and really really really good-looking. We are in Lincolnton- can't make it Saturday, but maybe to the one in Winston...

They test for Pullorum and if you are one of the lucky few, the Avian flu. It is very cheap, like $1.00 for several birds. If they come to your home, they charge $5 up to 50 birds, then $.10 per bird thereafter. This way, your test is good for a year rather than the 3 months if done at the shows. If you need the number for a state tester, let me know. I have the number for the one who does Statesville and Morganton. If he does not do your area, I am sure he can give you the number for who would.

His number is 919-606-8123. His name is Lynn Johnson. If you can't get him, I also have his home number. He will be at the show Saturday along with other testers

It is at the Burke county fairgrounds. The Livestock building is all setup. Took 3 trips down there for us to get everything ready. Weren't expecting so many entries.

Birds can be checked in this evening from 4-6pm, testers will be there for birds that are not NPIP. The building will be closed and locked then. The building will open tomorrow morning at 6am for check-in to begin. All birds have to be cooped by 9am when judging begins. The testers will leave at 9, so don't be late. NO untested birds will be admitted. If you need birds tested I would get there early. We have alot of new folks that are registered and there will most likely be a line for testing. The testers lift a wing, clear a small place, poke to get a single drop of blood, and band the bird. The cost is $1 for 1-10 birds and then $.10 per bird after.

3 birds would cost $1 and 12 birds would cost $1.20.

The test is good for 90 days, so the bird will be good for all of this years Fall shows after that.

With only 2 Judges I wouldn't expect this show to be over till about 3-4pm. Those guys are going to be busy.

Champion Standard was Carol Hipps' Black Australorp Cockerel.

Champion Bantam and SHOW CHAMPION was Judy Gantt's Black Cochin Pullet.

Best Silkie was a white Hen that belonged to Donna-Marie of Bristol TN/VA (upintheholler).

I have a few pictures before my camera died. I thought I had charged those batteries. I will get those up tomorrow.

It was a great day. Met lots of poultry friends, old and new. I saw alot of birds come and go in the sales area. A few were sold out before they even got setup. Nice size crowd. The weather was a bit cool for most, but I think everyone still enjoyed themselves.
