Hello, poultry people.

I'm a total newb at this, but having lurked here intensively for about a week, I feel almost confident in jumping into your world! My plan is to rent an incubator, order some eggs, and build a coop/enclosed run in my backyard, and I look forward to the companionship of chooks as well as the eggs and meat.

I'm also a fairly avid angler, and I'm tending a veggie garden that this year is focused heavily on hot peppers--and I'm also a member of thehotpepper.com. I've got a couple of labradors, some crayfish and loach in a would-be aquaponics tank (I'm just using the water from there for my soil garden at the moment), and my worm composters are cranking out some lovely castings.

I also love me a good beer on occasion.

Cheers!

Now how come you can rent an incubator and I can't?

Ha ha.. Welcome to BYC!

thanks for the warm welcomes.
Sumi: I asked around and there's a feed store not too far away that rents to hobbyists and schools. $25, and the incubator accommodates four dozen chicken eggs! Just placed an order for Australorps from RedBrush Farm. Hope a few survive the trip west from Missouri!
