freak hail storm kills 10 of my chickens

So we had a freak hail storm that lasted about 10 minutes (golf ball sized) , i went out after it was over to make sure everyone was okay and 10 of my chickens were dead or dying. I assume they just didnt make it to the coop or under cover in time and got hit. Has this ever happened to anyone else or is my luck just that bad?

Bummer. My condolences. I have heard of lightning strikes doing major damage and, of course, floods. Hadn't heard of hail before, though.

Oh how sad.

It must have happened fast, because the noise it makes would have scared them into going in the coop.

Thank you all for the kind words! Ive been around chickens my entire life and never seen anything like it, it was horrible! the ones that it didnt kill immediately, they were all stretched out and convulsing some were swinging their heads around almost like wry neck but much more violent! I was mortified!

We have had that happen too. We had one killed right away and another hit in her leg and we had to put her down because it was broken.
