Freaking out! Liquid is coming from its mouth/ beak!?

thanks so much for the advice. I went into our local agricultural supplies store today where they can give advice on chucks and they agreed it sounded like sour crop. I will isolate her again tomorrow. I have put apple cider vinegar in the water and have purchased live yogurt to mix with layers mash. I will obviously draw from the tips in this thread and fingers crossed she will pull through. I will keep you posted.

I've used it before with good luck for sour crop. I get WalMarts brand of the 7 day ointment..... $5. I give about 3 pea size amounts twice a day for about a week. This time is trickier. I finally got the sour crop mostly taken care of to find out she has an impacted crop as well ..... probably from eating hay with the horses.

Hay will do it, so will the black walnut leaves the girls think are so tasty. Every fall there's a girl or two who hogs too many and goes to hide in a corner looking miserable. I hold inverted by the feet, and massage the crop until the contents flow out onto the ground. Five minutes later they are back to stuffing themselves.

I think the purge helps avoid the sour crop.

Too bad they can't throw up hay. I can get out the nasty liquid though. Seems like every spring I have one that gets too eager for spring & eats a little hay wanting there to be grass :-\ usually a little olive oil & they're good. Had sour crop last summer after a well meaning person gave them the left over fruit from their party ..... oh well, the things we do!

One of the cosecs of sawer crop is a proliferation of a very common fungi called
Candida albicans. This situation is usually happens when antibiotics treatment disrupt the equilibrium between the bacteria( which the antibiotics affect and kills) and the fungi(which the antibiotics don't affect at all) in the microflora of the chicken. This is the reason way vagisil and other kind of intimate relief ointment that
treat also problems caused of Candida and other fungi is so good in treatment of sawer crop....:)

Whenever I have to use antibiotics I give then a good dose of pre & pro biotics for 2-3 days afterwards. Once made the mistake of going longer ..... I ended up giving my hen diarrhea in doing so. Lesson learned!
