That’s a great idea, I will put her out there a bit later today and see if she’ll eat with them. I doubt it though judging by her behavior.Feeling of the crop is easier if you can feel a few on the other hens to practice and to compare what they feel like with food in them. They may not be felt if they are empty and flat. If it feels like a pouch and is hard, or puffy like a balloon, those are abnormal in the early morning. The crop should be empty after not eating or drinking overnight.
It can be difficult to decide when to help end the life a sick or suffering chicken. If they will not accept food or water, and they seem very weak, it may be time. You can watch her a bit longer before deciding if you wish to make a decision. Can she visit with the other hen, to see if that would get her to eat?
Things are definitely taking a turn for the worse. I didnt give her any meds or supplement this morning to see if she would eat on her own. I had to go to school and when I got back it looks like she had bent over to try and eat and yellow liquid came out. Her poop is attached. I took her outside with the other hens to eat the mash and she just tried to walk back into her coopWhen my SO picked her up to bring her back in he tilted her a bit a thicker yellow liquid came out of her mouth. I want to say it was yolk like but I’m not sure. I’m calling the vet again to see what they think and how much it will cost to euthanize her....
