She'll be road-worthy again eventually. We'll need to replace the front end and have the frame tweaked but that's about it. Already have someone lined up to fix her...he's been riding the same scoot for over 30 years.

thanks to all,

for the thoughts and well wishes as dawn and i have recovered from our recent "flight lesson". as much as dawn is happy to be shed of her cast i am twice as happy to be down to 3 legs instead of 6. i'm walking well with out the cane but i still keep it handy from time to time. the doctor has turned me loose to do sedentary work (office, computer, phone), but it'll be 6 more weeks before i'll be able to stand at my bench and build cabinets. the good news is that my employer has found me a spot in the front office, i'll soon be back to work. it's been over 20 yrs since i've worked in an office type environment, i'm very apprehenisve about joining the "zombie zoo". the one thing that i learned in the accademic field is that " those who can, do; those who can't, teach; those who can't teach, administrate". it kinda sux to go from do to administrate in one bounce, 'cause i know my company and i'll be very lucky to get back to my bench. i'm afraid i'm soon to be trapped in the "tomb" forever. at my age it's probably not a bad idea to work on my admin skills, i just hate giving up my bench. i'm one of those odd few that actually enjoys his craft.

cheers,

doc

Thanks sundance!

We're wondering if there's some kind of bike accident curse that we don't know about...the few riding friends we have, haven't been by lately...

I'm glad you updated us on your conditions. I have been thinking about you guys and was about to pm you. I am sooo glad to hear that the progress is going well.

I know what you mean about the weather. DH has pins in his wrist/arm and I have screws and a plate in my ankle. The winters are worst for us. When the weather is below freezing since the screws are so clost to the suface I feel it greatly!

Glad you both will be back on the road again.

Skip, DH was a construction worker/ foreman/ welder for 20yrs before his back went out. Very reluctantly, he moved into the co. office and became the estimator. After four yrs, he still wishes he could be back in the field, but also knows that if he was he would be retiring early.

I can't wait to see pics of you guys back on your beautiful Harley!!(When DH finally gets his, I'll post pics)

Thanks Monica!

We can't wait to get back on the road again but we know it'll still be awhile yet.

I don't see it happening any time soon, like while the weathers nice but I love winter riding and suppose that's a good thing!

We're thinking about some upgrades for the scoot since she's headed for the shop anyways but I'll let Skip post about that one.

Can't wait to see your hubby's ride!!!

Unfortunately, every time he is about to take the step, something comes up. As people at our shooting matches call him the property poor farmer. If we didn't own property, we wouldn't be poor. Hopefully if I get a settlement on my ankle, he can get his harley. But now instead of a sidecar for the dog, we need a sidecar for the granddaughter!! We don't go anywhere without her. WE NEED A BABYSITTER!!!

hi monica,

i can totally relate to you'r dh's feelings! i know my company, as soon as i excell "up front" i'll probably never see my bench again. that bums me out, the only saving grace is that the money is better and i'll be high enough in the pecking order that i'll be joining the yearly "bonus" realm. that's a big plus 'cause our boss man is very generous with bonuses.
so, i'm going from building cabinets to cad drawing pictures of cabinets and shining clients, both of whitch i'm very good at. dawn and i have been self employed for so many yrs that even working at a bench for someone else was a major adjustment, and i had that under controll at the time of the accident. i've been sidelined for over 2 and a 1/2 months and i'm just chomping at the bit to get back and do "something". i'm sure dawn can't wait to have me out of her hair and to punt my butt back to work so she can work with-out my constant input and interference. hehe.....

cheers,

doc

oh,
i forgot the biggest plus of all, the sooner the scooter is fixed the sooner dawn and i will have our knees in the breeze. i get teared up every time i hear the "rolling thunder" go by. we miss adding our growl to the pack, that hurts more than the pain of rehabbing busted up limbs by a long shot....

cheers,

doc

I'm so glad you guys are still going to ride after a scary accident like that. Dawn, was it a weird feeling getting that cast off? I broke my wrist years ago, and when the cast came off - I was actually afraid to use my "new" wrist/arm.

Best wishes for the both of you and happy riding!

Be safe.
