Free Bielefelder hen (It sneezes) Located in LOMBARD, IL

I have recently picked up a Bielefelder hen from a friend of mine to add to my current flock. I kept her quarantined for 3 weeks before I think about introducing her to my flock but I decided against it. I do not want to take the risk.

Here's what I have been giving her:

1. Corvid powder mixed in her drinking water.
2. VetRX. I rubbed some of that stuff on her beak, feet, under her wings and buttocks.

She's drinking fine and eating fine. Her feces looks healthy. She is free! Thank you.
I'm sorry, but if you don't want to risk adding her to your flock, then why would you place this on someone else.
I'm going to assume that since she's sneezing that you are worried about some type of communicable respiratory disease.
If the previous owner can't/won't take her back and she's not worth the risk for you, then the ethical/right thing to do would be to put her down.

I understand. I will have a vet check it out and will go from there. If it needs to be put down, then I will have the vet do it. If they do that.

That would be a good idea, hopefully your vet has knowledge of poultry diseases.
If not, then having some independent testing is something to look into. I've never priced it, but many have used Zoologix and had the respiratory panel performed. I was told it's $98.
I also understand that respiratory diseases seem to be common, but there is risk when you take in new birds - not only can the new one become symptomatic due to stress, but whatever they have can make an existing flock sick too. https://zoologix.com/avian/index.htm

Looking at the thread you posted on Sunday it seems that the person you got her from was having some issues and losing quite a few birds. That's really sad and I'm sure it was also frustrating. Culling sick birds is one way to prevent spread of disease - not always a popular idea, but something to consider, especially if a person is interested in showing, breeding, selling, etc. Respiratory disease affects the bird's health long term and they are carriers.

Hi there, I'm in Riverwoods. I have a lonely lil silkie roo who would love the company (my hens are kept separate and I fear they would not welcome her), but I would absolutely need to know that she's not sick/contagious. I lost my two other beloved roos a few months ago and I can't go through it again.😭 If you would arrange a vet visit for her to really pin down what's going on, I'd gladly pay for it. And if she's all clear I will take her. But if she's all clear, you may not want to part with her. Let me know! Niles Animal Hospital is great if you don't already have one<3
This is my cousin! We will pitch in for the vet to get her in ship shape for you to meet sweet Coconut! Hope you don't give up on us!

UghI am in NJ so probably of zero help to you unless I found someone and you could charter a private jet - we don't want her to get covid on a commercial flight LOL. no but seriously I wish I could help. I hope you find her a really nice home.
I think my cousin reached out to you - she is from the area. She and I would pay her vet bill to get her healthy for her to take the hen. Did you get her message?

Hi,

Yes I did. We worked it out. The vet visit will be on January 18th.
