@fluffycrow

I found this cactus growing out back, I have never seen one of these growing anywhere around here, so I was pretty excited to find it! It's a very healthy specimen! ❤️ It lays flat to the ground, very little height, and about 15 centimeters wide (6 inches). Can you identify it please? 😊

It’s GORGEOUS! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more perfect wild specimen. They’re usually sun stressed to the point of no recognition. Maybe a few lithops, but still, WOW!

No, I love it! Maybe you can check on it again later during their flowering window--I'd love to see it if it ever blooms! They are very cool to look at. Almost like nature's mandalas. 🤩
I read on that link you included that they are springtime bloomers so I will definitely keep my eyes open next spring! 🌺🌺 And get photos! 📸

Isn't it a gorgeous specimen?! I can't wait to watch him live and grow. Hopefully nothing eats him! 😱 I should put a little fence around him. 🤔

It seems like you’ve got this much more than I do! My original guess was WAYYY off, echinocactus levels of off :p
No, no. I just took @TwoCrows' Mammillaria idea and went with it :lol:.

Yes, he needs a fence, and 1/2" hardware cloth, please. 😊😄

You both know your stuff, more than I do! :highfive:
I don't know, I just love all the things I learn when trying to ID (really anything) it's like solving a mystery (what is this mystery tool I have? This mystery chicken??? blah blah blah) I really would like to brush up on my taxonomy, like @fluffycrow though. Really lots of interesting connections to learn and make there.

It's pouring rain out right now. 😅 But first thing tomorrow morning, he's getting a hardware cloth cover for sure! 🥰
:woot

I hope you needed the rain! It's been sprinkling all day here, too. Really nice weather, though. Such a mellow day. Went from 48 to 12 sheep yesterday, so it's been a little quiet! 🐑 I hope you're enjoying yours!

The deeper I get into keeping succulents and cacti, the more I want to know too. At first I only cared for their common names, their street names if you will. 🤣 But now I want to know their scientific names. And of course it makes me want to keep every species out there. 🤣

We had a fairly decent monsoon season for a change, trees were dying left and right these past couple of years. This was a great summer! The rains are starting to wind down and I'm good with that, I want my arid 10% humidity back for fall. 🤣🍁🍂

How are the sheep doing? You have less sheep now? Have you been sheering this summer? 🐑 🐑
