I found this cactus growing out back, I have never seen one of these growing anywhere around here, so I was pretty excited to find it! It's a very healthy specimen! ❤️ It lays flat to the ground, very little height, and about 15 centimeters wide (6 inches). Can you identify it please? 😊

I believe it's a Mamillaria of some sort. Belongs in the desert of Mexico, I've got no idea how it got up here in the mountains at 7,000 ft!

From what I can tell, no. They need to have gathered enough nutrients from the soil, from the sun, and have been watered enough to survive the transition. It’s a very fine balance between too much and too little.

Hopefully much prettier! While I deeply thank you, I think this particular flower came out all scrawny, making it look less than impressive. Hopefully yours will flower soon, should be around mid winter when they do
That was my impression, too. "Wow! Puny!"... No, that is so funny. I thought it looked lovely! I mean, if I could get rocks to grow flowers at all, that'd be impressive! I could see how those flowering would really make your day. Fun to see!

That's a neat one! Sorry, I'm not @fluffycrow but compare to M. meiacantha.

Says it grows up to 7300'! :)🌵⛰️

Oh, and I totally defer to @fluffycrow's opinion--I deffo no succy ID'r, if that makes any sense, haha. (You get it.)

I clicked on this before I even realized what it was. (There is F-💣 droppage, so maybe pg-13? Sorry, it's totally cool to take it down if it's not okay.) 😇
(In case the link gets broken but you can still find the video: "Inside a Hidden LA Greenhouse Full of the World's Rarest Plants")

I hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday!

Oh gosh Jen, thank you so much! :hugs This is the plant! You are a star! 🥰 So it does grow at this elevation...this plant is so low to the ground and had it been growing deep in the grass I wouldn't have seen it. I'm sure I've stepped on many of them not even knowing it! Now that I know to watch for them, I will. Thanks again Jen!! ❤️

No, I love it! Maybe you can check on it again later during their flowering window--I'd love to see it if it ever blooms! They are very cool to look at. Almost like nature's mandalas. 🤩

It seems like you’ve got this much more than I do! My original guess was WAYYY off, echinocactus levels of off :p

It’s GORGEOUS! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more perfect wild specimen. They’re usually sun stressed to the point of no recognition. Maybe a few lithops, but still, WOW!

I read on that link you included that they are springtime bloomers so I will definitely keep my eyes open next spring! 🌺🌺 And get photos! 📸

Isn't it a gorgeous specimen?! I can't wait to watch him live and grow. Hopefully nothing eats him! 😱 I should put a little fence around him. 🤔
