I believe it's a Mamillaria of some sort. Belongs in the desert of Mexico, I've got no idea how it got up here in the mountains at 7,000 ft!@fluffycrow
I found this cactus growing out back, I have never seen one of these growing anywhere around here, so I was pretty excited to find it! It's a very healthy specimen! It lays flat to the ground, very little height, and about 15 centimeters wide (6 inches). Can you identify it please?

That was my impression, too. "Wow! Puny!"...From what I can tell, no. They need to have gathered enough nutrients from the soil, from the sun, and have been watered enough to survive the transition. It’s a very fine balance between too much and too little.
Hopefully much prettier! While I deeply thank you, I think this particular flower came out all scrawny, making it look less than impressive. Hopefully yours will flower soon, should be around mid winter when they do
No, that is so funny. I thought it looked lovely! I mean, if I could get rocks to grow flowers at all, that'd be impressive! I could see how those flowering would really make your day. Fun to see! That's a neat one! Sorry, I'm not @fluffycrow but compare to M. meiacantha.@fluffycrow

Says it grows up to 7300'!![]()
This is the plant! You are a star!
Now that I know to watch for them, I will. Thanks again Jen!! No, I love it! Maybe you can check on it again later during their flowering window--I'd love to see it if it ever blooms! They are very cool to look at. Almost like nature's mandalas.Oh gosh Jen, thank you so much! This is the plant! You are a star!
So it does grow at this elevation...this plant is so low to the ground and had it been growing deep in the grass I wouldn't have seen it. I'm sure I've stepped on many of them not even knowing it!
Now that I know to watch for them, I will. Thanks again Jen!!

I read on that link you included that they are springtime bloomers so I will definitely keep my eyes open next spring! No, I love it! Isn't it a gorgeous specimen?! I can't wait to watch him live and grow. Hopefully nothing eats him! It’s GORGEOUS! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more perfect wild specimen. They’re usually sun stressed to the point of no recognition. Maybe a few lithops, but still, WOW!
