Free chick from McMurray

I got my shipment from McMurray in this morning, I'm pretty sure my free exotic is a buff laced polish! I'm pretty excited, except I know I can't really keep a rooster like that and I'm not sure how to sex Polish chickens. I've read that the shape of the head crest is different, that males have a more oblong shape than females, so I'm pretty sure this little guy is male. Oh well, I'll enjoy his cuteness while I can!

Sure is. You can sex it by it's legs and feet. Also a female will have two long feathers on the tip of the wing on day 2-3. Males have more even or short feathers on the edge of the wing. You can compare to other sexed females in order as well.

How do you tell by the feet? I don't have any other polish in my order, they're all standard breeds, so it's hard to compare because this one is definitely built differently. The feathers aren't even on the wings though. I can get a picture if it would help? I'm no good at the sexing part lol.

It is much easier to tell on the clean legged breeds. The legs will be thicker and the feet are thicker. If you have other sexed chicks you can compare the leg and feet size to theirs since they are only a few days old. Also, sometimes males will have some darkness on the backs of their legs at a week +.

I'm not thinking it's a RCBL because it's face just isn't that "speckled", it's mostly clean except with some eyeliner. I'm torn between EE, Phoenix and Wellsummer, as all of those chicks look almost identical.

I thought about it right after I sent the post. It doesn't even have the peak on its head.

Peak? You mean the brown v shape? It does have a dark, well defined brown v on its head.

Yes, but it does not mean much. Welsummers, Speckled Sussex, Brown Leghorns, and some EE have them. I am not sure, but I think the Phoenix just has the specks on its face.

Seems we also got a little chipmunk with eyeliner this morning.. There does seems to be a bit of speckling in the wings though. Any thoughts?
The other is a Red Laced White Cornish.
