Check for materials on Craigs List. We got a bunch of FREE!!! panels. 3 1/2 X 3 1/3' reinforced with furring strips. They were wooden boxes to transport automotive parts. All we will need for our "new and improved" (and bigger) coop will be some roofing and wire. A new coop will hopefully cut down on the arguing when we introduce the 3 new chicks to our Big girl, Edith.

Great plans so far. All the wood used is reclaimed from a friend that just built a new deck. Still have a standing offer of my eggs for free wood to build the coop. Looking on craigslist for the rest.

I have a question. I am building the purina mills coop and in the frame assembly specs it has listed (8) 2"x4" treated 66". Are 4 of those 2"x4" supposed to be cut @ 60" for the roof slant?

Yes, that appears to be a misprint in the materials list. You will have to cut 4 of them to 60". Of course, no one sells any 2x4s that size, anyway. They will be 8 feet or 96". So all of them will need to be cut, 4 to 66" and 4 to 60". Good luck on your endeavor!

I modified the plans a little by providing a higher height by 6". This required a longer corner post to still have a 48 x 48 size.
Its basically a 48 x 48 x 48 coop. I just got some more free wood, but might not work for everything. Still have the word out.

I am Building this coop as well, my bill so far is 152 bucks, I am modifying the coop a bit, buy putting the nest box on the right side of coop, and the cleaning door on the left side and making it hinge out instead of down. I think it will look better and allow for easier cleaning.
