Free fange and gardens?

I must have lazy chickens because they stay out of the garden area thats fenced with 36" chicken wire. We give them tons of other stuff to eat though so maybe they are content.
They are cute though, in the summer they would beg for cherry tomatoes if you were in the garden area. They knew what was in there, LOL

We had a backyard full of good stuff and alot of weeds. Not too long after the girls started free ranging, I went to pick a (very rare and delicious) strawberry and there would be a huge bite taken out of it

All of our lettuce was still there but every leaf had bites taken out all around it. They didn't eat to many of the tomatoes for some reason

And soon after all that was gone, every single blade of grass was gone. To this day, we haven't even seen the tip of a weed or grass because they get to before they get get to far

So when we plant next, we are going to surround every plant with chicken wire so they can't get the good stuff

But then they can take care of all the weeds. We even have a wild blackberry bush that is too far up for them to reach. It comes back every summer and I have to be very careful not to drop any while I am picking the berries because there is a school of sharks surrounding the ladder

We let the girls out to the front yard the other day because they don't have anything else to eat in the back and the front is overflowing with weeds. They were in heaven. Now everytime we open the back gate, they escape and go running down the driveway as quickly as they can

Now, if you haven't seen a chicken run, you have to. It is the funniest thing on earth. Here are some pictures I got on there first trip to the front yard.
