Well, we are busted.

I just got a lovely code violation letter from our city today. I have until Sept 3th to find my birds a new home. They just turned 1 year old this August. These have been mine and my children's pets. They are very tame and friendly. I have 1 Black Austalorp, 1 buff orpington, 1 specked sussex, and 1 new hampshire red. I get 3-4 eggs a day. I would love to see them to go to a good home. Please let me know if you can help. I can email pics. I am in the east bay area, but would be willing to drive in a couple of hour radius.

Thanks,
Stacie

This really chaps me. I wish you the best and I'm sorry you have to get rid of your chickens. Makes me want to live in the olden day when a person was free to have chickens or whatever they needed to survive. Also, I adore the justice system of the Old West, you know hang 'em high, reuse the rope. Sorry, it just gets me going...................

That is terrible! Our city code says we can have 2 hens per house. But I guess I am a violation ready to happen because I have 15hens and 1 rooster. akkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!

I wish I lived near you and had a farm cause I would take them all. Gosh city sucks and what sucks even more is they can take dogs barking, but hens clucking...god forbid! :thun

Good luck to you and I hope you find them a good home!

Yup...It really sucks.

I bawled my eyes out today. To have chickens in our city you have to be on a lot size of 20,000 sqft. Ours is 16,000 sqft. The funny thing is we have had these birds for a year. We used to live about a mile away. Our old house had a very small yard and lots of neighbors. We never had any complaints. Most people loved the chickens, and I would give away free eggs.

We just moved into our new house this month that has a much bigger yard (3X the size) and has no rear neighbors. I just brought the chickens over this last weekend, and already a complaint! I wish whoever turned us in would have had the nerve to talk to us first.

I think the chickens are much quieter then the dogs.

I wish I could fight it, but I just don't have the time to really commit to a long drawn out battle. Maybe in the future.

I live in Santa Cruz and am interested in providing a new home for the hens. Can you let us know if you are still looking for a home for them and if so can you e-mail us some pics?

Thanks!
Sara

Thanks everyone for your support. It looks like the chickens have a nice new home.
