Parakeets are a flock species so happiest if they are not alone. They don't generally fight or pick at each other. They are happy in groups. Go to a pet store and observe. If you get any, don't confine them to a small cage. They are birds. They need to fly. They need toys for mental stimulation as well. A bird alone should at least have a mirror.
