Make sure you only take 2 or 4 per ocotillo plant when wild harvesting. Leave some for the wildlife.
Make sure there are no bees, ants, or spiders. You can pick, then let them sit out for a bit if there are some insects.
Bring the water to a simmer, turn off flame, and let the flowers steep for 10-20 minutes and then enjoy or let it completely cool for iced.
The flowers can be used in a salad or garnish as well.
If you pick from a personal yard, make sure you use plants from non-sprayed yards, and as always, consult your physician before consuming or applying anything.
