More details about the 14th Annual Prickly Pear Festival in Superior, AZ. August 22–24, 2025. Brought to you by Adelante Juntos Superior.

—This year’s theme is “Going Back to the Roots,”
Join us as we focus on indigenous food sources, Plant medicine, sustainability, activism, conservation, Permaculture, and food education.
More than just a festival, this event is a hub for like-minded individuals and organizations to come together and share ideas, build partnerships, collaborations, friendships, and grow on these subjects and more.

Friday, August 22 – Film and Panel Discussion:
Kick off the festivities at 4:30 PM in the Town Hall Auditorium (199 Lobb Ave.) in partnership with
Local First Arizona and Good Food Finder.
Enjoy a film screening and panel discussion, moderated by Edmond Williams, with Native American growers, foragers, and chefs including:
Larold Pinal – White Mountain Apache
Angel Martinez – Yavapai Apache
John Slattery – Author and Forager
Brett Vibber – Chef and Forager
This evening includes FREE edible desert tapas by Aravaipa Condor, Sustainable Superior, Mrs. B’s Amazing Prickly Pear Cheesecakes and a food demo by Rodney Smith of Good Food Grow. (beverages are to be sold)

While our stand the "city farm" homestead headquarters in Mesa, Az might be a bit harder to get to today (see map.) Go down Hobart or McClellan.

Here are 2 months of vegetable, herbs, flowers, trees, bushes, misc..
Remember that each year is different and planting can be within a 2 week period due to elevation/temps, thus= a or b zones.
(Tucson is zone 8 & a month behind us, & so on.)
This year is not as hot as others so planting more is doable.
If there is a seed, plant, and whatnot missing, please comment below. This is not a planting guide to start seeds early inside. There are many great reference's for planting guides, please look at all of them if you're not sure.
All the guides will be done on the website blog before publishing on a banner for social media, check there 1st as this is an ever-changing fun/exotic list.

The toxic /poisonous plant list, pet friendly, and edible flowers will be there as well. HAPPY PLANTING, GARDENING FRIENDS!

I seem to find funky
salt and pepper shakers.
If I find a stopper for this vintage one from Japan I will bring it with mesquite flour at the Foraging Desert Plants & how to Process
The one on the left is full of mesquite flower, ready for the event.
