Free Range chickens where would they lay their eggs?

I have 4 hens that free range all day. Left town for a couple of days and came back and they had laid 8 eggs. Have not laid any since we have been back are they laying them somewhere else? Do they need to be in their coop inorder to lay eggs?

Chickens will lay eggs any where that they feel secure. My chickens free range and they go straight to my barn to lay their eggs. They will probably lay in enclosed areas.
