For Em ...

I always thought my wife was the most beautiful woman
in the whole world. First time I met her, I knew I was done.
Lifetime ago.

No, I had never seen a picture of Em. And I was completely
blown away this evening. For there's a picture on my bookcase
that looks so very much like that.

Em in that picture, you look so much like my wife all those years
ago.

Her hair's a little gray now. What hair she has left. But back in the
day it was some shade of auburn. Would that be the right word? In
some lights, it was the most stunning shades of red. Or at times, a
deep brown. And curly...she wore it a little longer than shoulder legenth
because I've always loved to run my fingers through it.

After her heart attack, she laid there in a coma, and I'd run my fingers
through her hair. Something I do to this day before I go to sleep.

Not tall, not short, she stands about five foot ten. Which one of us is taller
depends on who has their shoes on.

Her smile...it lit the room when we were young. It was like her smile was
just for me. Me alone. I still live for that smile. We've been up, we've been
down...and she still smiles for me.

But as I said Em...it was her eyes...her beautiful eyes that I knew I couldn't
ever walk away. Big brown eyes, that glowed with her spirit within. And that
spark in her eyes...that spirit...she's made my whole life worth the living.

The picture of her...she was 18...her birthday. We had been swimming. I remember
her posing for that picture. Her little swimming suit. You could see by the light in her
eyes, her devil smile...she knew she was beautiful to me.

That was a long time ago. More years than I care to count.

And she's still the one.

Your picture tonight brought a lot of memories rushing back, Em. Precious memories.

We weren't old enough to drive back then...I use to ride my bicycle to her house. We'd
walk around town. Maybe share a coke and some frys if we had the money.

Many the times, her parents would drive me and my bike home.

Our daughter looks just like her....

What a life it's been.

So yes Em...I was stunned by your picture.

How beautiful you are. I wish you the happiness that we've had.

Spook

I'll allow you to keep thinking that for the next 6 months or so. Welcome to the fold.

It all depends on the maturity of your behavior, dear, Em.

You know, Em. I think you need to get dressed and prepare for an evening out. Spook has stood me up -- er rather failed to stand up; he's still in his rocker.
