you really can't fool mother nature....she has the trump cards...... but it is so darn tempting.
I made no effort to trump mother nature. That was done by humans engaged in several thousand years of selective breeding making for extended seasons of lay and broodiness. That breeding played itself out this year despite my efforts.

Mother nature would have laying season start in April and end in June.

I have no humor when using Kindel to enter posts. Changes words, my fingers are too fat, and I cant read what I write. My birds also lack in the common sense department.

Worst weather night of year I hope. Cold, freezing rain switching to snow tonight. Insulatory value of feathers degraded. Hopefully this will not be followed by arctic blast.

This happens a lot years in this season. Problems can vary greatly. In past were tree falls but now cold stress is bigger concern since no longer protected by conifers.

SNOW CAUSING TEMPORARY STOP OF FORAGING

Last night we got about three inches of wet snow in addition to the freezing rain. Like with front porch flock the penned doms are staying clear of snow. Even after feed applied birds would not leave roost. Single Dom free-range pullet tries fly point to point like game hens but is too heavy. This pattern will be maintained for a couple days causing weight loss. With games it will result in flying without as much motivation but Doms will simply walk.
